Most of the time tying on my shoes is the hardest part of my run. The will, sheer will, to get started takes more mental energy than actual physical energy I may expend. I’ll feel powerful and clear headed after my run, but my muddled and exhausted mind can’t remember that fact. I need to get out of the house for my own sanity, but the sofa is a magnet holding me down.

When did this start? When did lethargy take over my body? Certainly not as a child. My baby can’t yet crawl, but there is so much motion in her body it’s tiring to watch. Her limbs flail, writhe and wriggle in every direction. She’s so desperate to reach that shiny object in her line of sight that she is willing to kick, roll and inch along with every ounce of strength she has.

How do we overcome that body at rest and reclaim that body in motion? We have to fight the sofa magnet and reach for shiny objects! My current shiny object is the San Diego Rock n’ Roll half marathon I signed up for when the registration was on sale. I can’t quite reach it yet, but I’m inching along, hoping to one day crawl, then walk, then run to reach it.

What’s your shiny object?

I’m going to start blogging more regularly, about once per week. Please let me know if you have any questions, topics or just need to vent!
